Michelangelo

I’d like to share some pictures of my favorite Renaissance artist, Michelangelo Buonarroti. I’ve always admired Renaissance art but never knew much about it until last year when I started doing a lot of book and internet research about it. If you’re really into art or very new to art history, I think the Renaissance is something everyone can appreciate.

I’m sure you recognize the sculpture above? One of the most recognized pieces of art, Michelangelo’s David gets hundreds of visitors every day. Unlike traditional depictions of David showing his victory, Michelangelo sculpted him in the pivotal moment before the battle when he’s sizing up his opponent.

This powerful sculpture is his pieta, depicting the moment that Jesus is taken down from the cross and held in Mary’s arms. This piece was made to be viewed from any angle around the sculpture.

I’m sure you’ve heard of The Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo spent many years of his life painting the walls and ceiling of this beautiful structure.

This is a 3D viewer application of the Sistine Chapel, it can be viewed on an internet browser, no download required! I really want to visit the chapel sometime in my life but until then this is a great substitute.

I encourage you to look up more of Michelangelo’s art in your free time and be amazed!
